The Reverend Brian C. Barry | Assistant to the Rector
I was born and raised on Long Island, and spent most of my life in and around Bellmore. I graduated from Adelphi University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. I've worked many odd jobs in my life, not limited to book stores, banking, mortgages, North Fork vineyards, construction, and voice-over work for television and radio. I married the love of my life, Holly, in June of 2016. We love camping, hiking, traveling reading, and all things sci-fi and fantasy. Holly loves to bake. I love baked goods. We are match made in heaven.
While discerning answering the call to ordained ministry, I spent a year (2012-2013) working with the Episcopal Mission on Standing Rock Reservation in South Dakota. During my time there, I served alongside my Lakota brothers and sisters, bringing food to the elderly, tutoring and assistant-teaching at the local school, and building an outhouse for a church with no running water. I also assisted in the Taize Pilgrimage of Trust to Red Shirt Table on the Pine Ridge Reservation, where I helped coordinate internal security following safe-church procedures. My favorite job, however, was helping out at Thunderhead Episcopal Camp in the Black Hills, where I got to hang out with the kids and throw water balloons at camp counselors.
In 2013, I enrolled at Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, the Episcopal seminary at Yale Divinity School. I graduated in May 2016, with a Masters in Divinity and a Diploma in Anglican Studies, where I focused on Early Christian Spirituality. I served as an intern at St. John's, New Haven, and learned new approaches to Outreach and Evangelism. My passions are Outreach and Education, and so it was with joy in my heart that I answered the call to serve at St. Ann's in Sayville. I have enjoyed getting to know everyone, particularly our youth, in my time here since July 2016. I look forward to the years ahead, as we travel our earthly pilgrimage together, seeking and serving Christ wherever we encounter him.

✔ The June Correspondent ReleaseMessage from Fr. Hugh James, Saturday June 13thDear Members of St Ann’s,
Greetings to you. In my recent e-mails I've talked about some of the questions we will have to be thinking about before we can decide on re-opening the church buildings. We've now received the report from the Diocesan Task Force on how to re-open and the vestry will be talking about this on Monday. One key question will be the number of people we are expecting in attendance. So if you didn't let me know about your intentions last week, I'd still appreciate hearing from you before Monday's vestry meeting. My e-mail address and other contact details are at the bottom of this e-mail. In the meantime, pre-recorded Sunday services are and will continue to be available through our website. Go to St Ann’s web page http://www.saint-anns.org/, scroll down the page until you find the link for the service, click on it and participate in the worship. For Sunday services those links should be available from 5:00pm on Saturday, so that you can see them at the same time that you would normally attend church, whichever one of our services you go to. You can also follow links to any of the services that you missed, either from the home page for the most recent or from the Sermons page for older services. It is also possible to see these services through Facebook or You Tube. If you can, please send a greeting of peace to others who are worshipping at that time. A bulletin for the main Sunday service can be downloaded from our website. The link for it should be adjacent to the link to the service video. Our live, interactive children/family service goes out using Zoom at 9:00am. If you e-mail me with a request I can provide you with the link to that service, which is aimed at the children and families of our Sunday School. We will be continue with the on-line Coffee Hour on Sundays at 11:00 (Meeting ID: 894 071 280) Our Sexton, Lou, has been very busy painting the parish hall. We’d like to ask that nobody tapes, tacks,or nails anything to the walls in the hall. Please let’s all work together to keep our parish hall looking beautiful. Thank you. Under normal circumstances we would be celebrating St Barnabas Day on Sunday June 14, being the nearest Sunday to St Barnabas’ Day which is June 11. We would have enjoyed an informal outdoor service and picnic to follow. Obviously we can’t do that this year, but we will, hopefully, before the Fall we will find an opportunity to do St Barnabas Day on another day! The position of St Ann’s new Rector was advertised in early March. A number of applications, some of which look very promising, were received and the Search Committee contacted and interviewed them. The Search Committee’s role is to present up to 3 candidates to the Vestry, any one of whom they would be happy to see as the next Rector of St Ann’s. The vestry will then arrange to meet with the candidates, interview them and answer their questions. And then, if all goes well, the vestry will offer the position to the candidate they think most suitable to be your next rector. The vestry is now considering how to complete the interview process in light of the the restrictions caused by the COVID-19 virus. They will be arranging those interviews soon. The appointment will not happen overnight, because even after the position is offered, there will be background checks and discussions about contracts and other matters to be attended to, before any announcement can take place. In the midst of all that, I will be thinking and praying about my own position. A few months ago I thought I knew what would happen, and then COVID-19 happened. The priest who had planned to retire and whose position I would have filled as interim, has decided to postpone his retirement, which is perfectly understandable. It leaves me having to explore other options, and I am currently searching for places that will be needing an interim rector in a few months' time. So I would ask for your prayers for Susan and me as we seek to discern God’s will for us and the period of my ministry. With my love and prayers, Fr. Hugh From the Rev'd J. Hugh A. James Interim Rector of St Ann's Episcopal Church 262 Middle Road Sayville NY 11782 fatherhughjames@saint-anns.org (631) 244-2786 (Rectory) Trinity Sunday Service- Weekend of 6/7/2020
